South End condos: What you can get for $400K

One of the best ways to learn about the Boston condo market (or any local real estate market for that matter) is to actually look at what type of properties you can get in a particular price range.  So I want to give you a look at what you can get for the money in the South End in this post.

I decided to go with South End condos around $400,000 for this "window into the market" because the sub-$400K market in the South End has been very busy lately.  Many buyers are taking advantage of the $8,000 first time homebuyer tax credit and historically low mortgage interest rates now in the 4% range.  In the past 2 months there have been 32 South End condos below $425,000 that have sold or gone under agreement in the past 2 months.  With 46 condos for sale in the South End currently, that's only a 3 month supply of inventory on the market in that price range!

And if you're not in the $400,000 price range, you can also search our terrific new Google powered multiple listing search engine to find all available South End condos or Back Bay condos (or any other area, but that ought to get you started - try it out and let me know what you think- no login required).

Otherwise, enjoy these selections:
