Boston Local Food Festival

Posted by Susie Callahan on Wed, Sep 09, 2015

"For one spectacular day each year, SBN transforms the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the City of Boston into the nation's largest local & sustainable food hub! Boston Local Food Festival is a free outdoor festival that showcases farmers, local restaurants, food trucks, specialty food producers, fisher folks, and organizations focusing on healthy food and fitness from New England. The festival also features lively chef & DIY demos, a seafood throwdown competition, diverse music and performances, family fun zone and more.

Festival goers learn about the benefits of sustainably grown and produced food, shop the market, eat delicious local food, participate in fun, educational activities and exhibits, engage with top local chefs and enjoy local music. Themed “Healthy Local Food for All”, the festival connects Massachusetts and New England eaters of all backgrounds with the abundance of fresh, nutritious local food choices available close to home.

The festival is a zero-waste event, meaning we divert over 91% of our waste each year and we offset 100% of our energy use! All perishable items sold are made from locally sourced products. Best of all, we bring this annual event to the community free of charge. So grab your reusable water bottles and bags and enjoy New England’s largest one day farmers market, while celebrating “Healthy Local Food for All”"

Downtown Boston Public Art Tour

Posted by Susie Callahan on Mon, Aug 24, 2015

"Explore the fabulous public art -- both city-sanctioned and graffiti -- during this walking tour through downtown Boston. The city is home to several museums, but some of the best art in town can be found right on the street, from magnificent murals to sculpture, guerrilla painting and Boston's PaintBox program, which commissions artists to turn utility boxes into sidewalk installations. This walking tour will take you through parts of the Downtown Crossing and Chinatown neighborhoods and over toward the South End and Theater District where you will see a terrific array of public art.

The Downtown Boston Art Walking Tour includes murals, PaintBox projects and more. The tour is approximately 2.5 hours and includes less than a mile of walking. "

3 Free Museums to Check Out

Posted by Susie Callahan on Wed, Aug 12, 2015

Need an idea on what to do on a rainy summer day? Why not get some culture and head to one of these always FREE museums, provided by Thrillist:

1. Museum of Bad Art | Davis Square

"Free with admission to any film or theatre event at the Somerville Theater.
It’s exactly what it sounds like."

2. Boston Athenæum | Beacon Hill

"The first floor and exhibition galleries are free to the public.
Tucked away in this gorgeous membership library are rare paintings, maps, photographs, and, of course, books -- even one bound from the skin of a man whose dying wish was to literally BE a book."

3. The Museum of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts | Faneuil Hall

"If the Constitution Museum wasn’t enough, get your fill of military memorabilia at this often-overlooked spot in Faneuil Hall."

"Intrude" at The Lawn On D

Posted by Susie Callahan on Sat, Jul 11, 2015

"As the latest temporary outdoor installation to be part of the D Street ArtLAB WonderLAND exhibit, Intrude features five giant illuminated white inflatable rabbits standing on The Lawn. The two story high glowing rabbits will take over the Lawn for several days, giving us the feeling of being very, very small! The accompanying light installation will evoke a sense of wonderment and imagery from childhood.

Intrude was created in 2014 for Vivid Festival of Light in Sydney by artist Amanda Parer and has since traveled to festivals across the globe including stops in England, Belgium, Australia, France, Canada, Scotland, Denmark and Italy. "

>> Time: The Intrude exhibit will be up for all to experience during normal Lawn on D hours

>> Eat & Drink: The D Street Grille, The Tent bar and rotating food trucks per the daily schedule
